Trigger warning – Prepare yourself for your heart to explode with love and very strong feelings for Mohan Lal!

Plot –Sandeep Balakrishnan is a wealthy owner and the chef at his cloud kitchen when he is diagnosed with a heart condition that requires a heart transplant surgery. The surgery goes well and Jerry is assigned as his nurse who is responsible for his medication, his physiotherapy and his recovery. Sandeep is single and stays that way after a disastrous wedding where his bride to be runs away with her boyfriend!

While Sandeep is recovering and back at his cloud kitchen he gets an unexpected call from Haritha. Haritha’s father, retired Colonel Ravindranath, dies in a car accident and his heart has been transplanted in Sandeeps body. Haritha is due to get engaged in Pune and requests Sandeep if she could meet him once and see the person who is carrying her fathers heart.

After she meets with Sandeep, she is overjoyed and begs Sandeep to attend her engagement in Pune just this one time so that she can feel her fathers presence at her engagement. Sandeep agrees very reluctantly and heads to Pune. Haritha’s engagement breaks off and in the ensuing drama, Sandeep gets punched and he falls back and hurts his back. What was initially meant to be a two day trip now turns into a two week trip where he is forced to stay with Haritha and her mother.

During the course of his stay and recovery, he bonds with both the mother and daughter and gets very close to them. Jerry as his faithful sidekick, Sandeep navigates through the complex emotional attachment with Haritha and her mother Devika. Haritha finds a confidante and a friend in Sandeep and Devika finds a compassionate human who seems to understand her. Torn between the two women and his own work back home in Kerala, Sandeep has to make some difficult choices and handle the situation with care.

Hridayapoorvam is that rare gem that quietly comes in and settles down with you, warming your heart and keeping you engaged through the entire 1 hour 50 minutes. There are funny moments and emotional moments. But they don’t, even for a moment, take your attention off the storyline. The movie has its share of keeping you on tenterhooks regarding what the outcomes will be and you hope you have not signed up for a cheesy romance movie with an older man and a much younger woman, or that you are witnessing two seniors who are in love with each other. This movie will surprise you with a mature and well rounded conclusion that will fill you up with so much love for the actors and the director!

Technically, it is a straightforward story with some very basic cinematography, barely there action scenes and music that is simple and warm. What stands out in this movie is the manner in which the story unfolds and the emotional connections between strangers and friends and family. The bonding and nurturing of relationships is portrayed very beautifully here.

I am a fan of Lalettan (as Mohanlal is called affectionately)! His acting is beyond doubt the best in the industry. Malavika too is an actor who carries her role with a lot of dignity and grace. Do watch out for Siddique as Sandeep’s brother in law! He plays his role so well! And the things he does! You must watch him!

I have been watching way too many crime documentaries and thrillers that this movie came in like a breath of fresh air and warmed up my soul! This movie is like a hot bowl of Maggi, a hot cup of strong coffee, a warm fresh off the oven cake, a delightful bite of ice cream, a plate of hot pakoras on a rainy day…. I can go on and on with the food references, but you get the point, right? So don’t waste your time and do watch Hridayapoorvam now!

I give it a full 10/10!
